Go Jenna Go! Signs of support are popping up all

Go Jenna Go!

Signs of support are popping up all over town for Clovis native Jenna Prandini, who will be competing in the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Clovis High graduate will race in three events, the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4 X 100 relay.

Good luck Jenna! Your hometown is rooting for you as you sprint for the gold!

A significant donation was presented Thursday morn

A significant donation was presented Thursday morning to the Friends of the Clovis Senior Activity Center.

The Kiwanis Club of Clovis presented a check for $50,000 to benefit the new center, which is currently under construction.

“The Kiwanis Club of Clovis has partnered with the Clovis Senior Activity Center for over 30 years”, said Bill Costelow, President of the Kiwanis Club of Clovis. “We believe our investment into the new center will provide sustaining resources that will be needed into the future.”

The Clovis Senior Activity Center: A Smittcamp Family Legacy, is a nearly 29,000 square foot facility which will feature a conference hall, rooms for enrichment classes, and a health clinic run by Saint Agnes Medical Center. The center is being built at Landmark Square, a six acre lot near the heart of Old Town Clovis. In appreciation of their generous donation, the Billiards Room in the center will be named for the Kiwanis Club of Clovis.

City of Clovis Mayor Jose Flores was in attendance for the check presentation. Mayor Flores recognized the Kiwanis Club of Clovis with an official proclamation thanking the organization for their support of the new center.

“We are very grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Clovis for their generous donation,” said Amy Hance, City of Clovis General Services Manager. “This gift will allow us to better serve our local seniors for many years to come.”

In addition to the Senior Activity Center, Landmark Square will feature a new Transit Hub, bearing the name of long serving City Councilmember Harry Armstrong. The City of Clovis is also partnering with Fresno County, which will build a new Clovis Branch of the Fresno County Public Library on the property.

Ground was broken and construction began at Landmark Square in February. The project will take place in several phases, with the Senior Activity Center expected to be completed sometime in 2022.

The check presentation ceremony was attended by members of the Kiwanis Club of Clovis, Friends of the Clovis Senior Activity Center, Clovis Mayor Jose Flores, Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig, and 23rd State Assembly District Member Jim Patterson.

The City of Clovis is working to improve our walking and biking trails, and your feedback is needed.

The City of Clovis has started the process of updating the Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which will help the City assess existing conditions, set goals, and identify opportunities to improve walking and bicycling for people of all ages and abilities. We need your help to make this a success!

To help us better identify opportunities for improvements and ensure public input is considered, we would like to invite you to our community-wide ATP Update meeting. The discussion will help the City of Clovis better understand priorities of Clovis community members while providing an opportunity to discuss barriers and opportunities for walking and biking.
